IMPORTANT DC COUNCIL CONTACTS ON DISABILITY ISSUES

The DC council's Committee on Facilities and Family Services (https://dccouncil.gov/committees/committee-on-facilities-and-family-services/) oversees the Department on Disability Services (DDS).  Its membership includes:

There will be changes in January 2025, but for now these are the other DC council committees whose deliberations are likely to have a meaningful impact on DC’s developmentally disabled residents:

• The Committee on Housing (https://dccouncil.gov/committees/housing-neighborhood-revitalization, chaired by Robert White, with Frumin and Parker as members
• The Committee on Executive Administration and Labor (https://dccouncil.gov/committees/committee-on-executive-administration-and-labor), which handles employment issues and is chaired by Bonds with Frumin and George as members
• The Committee on Health (https://dccouncil.gov/committees/committee-on-health), chaired by Henderson, with Nadeau and Parker as members
• The Committee of the Whole, or COW, takes up education issues, under the chairmanship of Mendelson, and as of September 18, 2024 a subcommittee of the COW chaired by councilmember Frumin is overseeing recreation and community affairs since councilmember Trayon White's committees have been disbanded.
