Work continues in the DC council on the FY2027 budget, with few changes likely expected on DDS. The Lewis George committee did propose to restore $200,000 in the budget for administrative fees to providers, though, and hopefully that will make it through the full council.
Many of us are grieving this week over the passing of another determined and beloved advocate, our own Robert Kennedy. I have no up-to-date news about a memorial service, but will share that information when I have it.
In this blog post, I also want to share with you the article
I posted on Substack earlier this week about how we’re remembering Judy Heumann
here in DC. So many people don’t know about
her role locally as the head of DDS and I wanted to bring that to a wider
audience. I hope you’ll enjoy it, here. (With respect to the Medicaid buy-in legislation, though, I've learned that it may address only DC Medicaid, which would not help those wanting access to one of the DC disability waivers - still some advocacy needed on that one!)
